I bought some sliced almonds at the store the other day. I was wanting to put them in some bread or brownies. I know there high in fat so how much do I use to start with and whats some ways I can use them? Thanks

Since almonds have SF but high in fat the best way to probably eat those would be to eat them ground really good or just eat them in moderation paired with other SF. I have a tendency to eat whole almonds sometimes but they don't make sick but I can get kind of bloated if I eat too many probably because of the high fat content. After researching recipes where Heather uses almonds she always uses them finely ground and says that it's a good soluble fiber base. That's probably the way to go.

There are number of recipes that use almonds in the recipe exchange. It appears they are frequently used in their sliced form or ground up.

Almonds are high in IF with almost no SF. If you are sensitive to IF then it might be best to grind up fine before using. Some of the recipes used ground almonds in cookies and other baking.

incidentally, nutrient-wise it may also be a good idea to opt for almond oil instead, as that still has the fat content but no IF at least and still has all the desirable nutrients?

Well, I will differ from most. I eat raw nuts/seeds all the time. My mid-morning snack is either slivered, raw almonds with bananas or sliced apples with black walnuts. Good, healthy fat!

But, if you can't handle that you can finely grind them, and throw them in any recipe.

Almond oil wouldn't retain the desirable nutrient of protein which is one the big things almonds have going for them. A better option would be almond butter which I LOVE.
If I were looking to use slivered almonds I'd sprinkle a few on my cereal or oatmeal, on top of my baked yam or on pasta. Maybe toast em up in a pan first.

and add up to 1/3 cup per loaf of bread or brownie batch. If you want to be more cautious add just 1/4 cup.
