Hi Robyn - I posted a reply to you in your other thread about all this. The molecular defect they just identified is new, but it's just one in a long list of discoveries about serotonin and IBS. It's good news, but not something that will lead to a cure tomorrow (or, according to some of the top researchers, ever).
IBS is NOT caused by food sensitivities, or stress. It is a brain-gut dysfunction, and no one knows what causes that. Foods and stress are triggers - they can absolutely make you worse, so managing your diet and stress is a great way to keep symptoms at bay.
I'm not sure why you've suddenly been able to change your diet. For some folks IBS kind of comes and goes across the years, and so does their need to manage their diet, stress, climate they live in, exercise, etc. I'm glad to hear you're feeling better!
