Hello - As anyone can tell at a glance, the Eating for IBS diet is pretty much the anti-Atkins diet. The good news about this is that not only is eating for IBS a much, much healthier way to eat than Atkins or any other low carb, high protein/high fat diet, it is also MUCH more likely to result in effortless, safe, and sustainable weight loss for folks who are overweight. No, I am not kidding. This is common sense nutrition and basic biology, as the info below will show.
Let's not forget to mention that eating for IBS will reduce your risk of obesity, heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, kidney stones, colon cancer, and other awful health problems that Atkins and the whole low carb insanity can directly cause.
This whole issue has been discussed at great (and I do mean great) length on the IBS diet board in the past, and this post is meant to give links to all of these past discussions so that the topic doesn't keep coming up, over and over again, on the board itself. Please check the links below and read through THE ENTIRE THREADS for detailed information, as well as references to medical sources that tell the truth about what a healthy diet is (plant-based, high complex carb) and what it most definitely is not (low carb, high animal fat and protein). Look for posts by Heather, Zaftig, Kandee, Lithelady, Mags, HansSolo, Kree, and JenX in particular.
