Hi - I have had the same type of experience, because hormonal fluctuations can wreak havoc with IBS, even if you're stable. You can try something like birth control pills to stabilize your hormones.

Or, what worked for me, was regular yoga practice. Regular exercise in general stopped cold the IBS flares I'd have with my period. Yoga in particular completely alleviated this issue - and the weird thing is that has held steady even if I lapse in my yoga practice.

It didn't address the actual menstrual cramps, unfortunately, at least not by much. But it sure did stop the IBS flares on top of everything else, and that has been a big deal.
