Why it's so very different than wheat bran in this matter I''ve no idea. But whole rice pasta and whole rice cereals and just plain whole brown rice are usually very safe. It's right up there with oatmeal as one of the most tolerable whole grains. There are still people who have problems with it, but it doesn't seem to be comparable to whole wheat/wheat bran at all.
