Hi Angela - I did some quick searches and got several different fiber breakdowns for oatmeal - anywhere from a 1-1 fiber ratio to a 1-2 (soluble/insoluble). Quaker oats says it's 55% soluble, 45% insoluble. This is a pretty darn high ratio of insoluble fiber compared to something like white rice or pasta. It may be why oatmeal is causing problems for you sometimes.

In general, oatmeal is considered a "high soluble fiber" food and is really safe for IBS, but obviously there's a lot more insoluble fiber in there than you'd think. It was actually higher than I'd realized. So you're right, be careful here...
