Hi Daniel, and welcome! Try taking your soluble fiber right before you eat. That will really give your gut a buffer for your meal. There's no harm in (and plenty of benefits) to taking the supplement in between meals, but it will give you better stability with any meal if you have it right before. Make sure the foundation of your meal is soluble fiber foods as well, and that you're eating small meals and snacking on soluble fiber foods. The key is to keep your gut filled with soluble fiber at all times, so eat little amounts but often.

Whole Foods usually does have fennel, but my local store doesn't sell the organic variety, which I prefer for IBS (and which I swear tastes better). Not sure why yours wouldn't carry it at all. If you find organic bulk fennel, it should brew a cup of tea with 1 T that is very, very strong. If it's not that strong, you know the fennel is too old or not a high enough quality to be truly effective.

Do pay attention to the Metamucil and switch if it's causing you gas.

Some good news for you - there isn't a creamy sauce around that you can't make with soy/rice substitutes instead of dairy, and you'll be shocked at how delicious they are. Check the recipe board and index for tons of ideas here - from alfredo sauce to mushroom cream sauce to custards and more.
