Hi - Questran is officially for post-gallbladder removal diarrhea. It is not approved for use in IBS, though there have been some interesting results for some people with IBS who have used it. I would suspect that in those people there may be undiagnosed problems with their gallbladder, as Questran works by binding the bile acids and preventing them from irritating the intestines. This is not something that would normally be happening if you have a functioning gallbladder, and it's also unrelated to the dysfunction of brain/gut nervous systems that occur with IBS.

But, in a nutshell, if you take Questran and it stops your chronic diarrhea, then that's a success and I'd take it.

Questran should work very quickly - just a day or two. I'd ask your doc or pharmacist about taking it with calcium, if there's any interaction there, if you should stop the calcium till you see how Questran works for you, etc.
