Hi - Unfortunately, for most folks it seems to. There is evidence that it improves for most women after menopause (see the IBS research library for articles on this). And for some people who develop the symptoms under an extremely stressful life situation, if they're able to remove the stressor from their life they'll sometimes go completely back to normal. For most people, though, once you've got IBS you tend to have it forever. You can make a world of difference in your symptoms (and life) by controlling things like diet and using anxiety management strategies.

The best news on this front is that there is mounting evidence that improvements resulting from gut-directed hypnotherapy seem to very long-lasting...and perhaps permanent. So, if you're someone who saw dramatic symptom reduction from IBS hypnotherapy (and most folks do have this result) the odds are pretty good you're looking at serious lifelong improvements.

Best,
Heather
