Hi Marnie - For your question:
1.Interested in your opinion on this and on using probiotics as posts I've seen seem to indicate they helps people? Is that the name brand?
Probiotics have been shown in clinical studies to help IBS. Check the research library for details. I haven't seen any brand names in the studies.
2. If acidolpolus is not good for people w/GERDS, is your new supplement ok = free of any acidolpolus?
I haven't heard that acidophilus shouldn't be used for GERD. Did your internist give you a reason why this would be? You've already gut good gut flora in your body - probiotics just help increase that amount. So I'm not sure why this would affect GERD at all, let alone make it worse.
The acacia shouldn't really pertain to this one way or another - it doesn't contain probiotics like acidophilus. It's considered a prebiotic, which means that it encourages the growth of probiotics. So it just helps your gut produce more good flora, it doesn't actually contain the flora.
3. Should I start with the same amount of your fiber as I am currently using?
I don't know if there's a black and white answer to this. I'd calculate what your current dose is in terms of grams of fiber, not volume (teaspoon or tablespoon). You could probably start with something comparable - or maybe start with a little less since you are making a switch, and it always better to start a supplement with a low dose and gradually increase.
4. Is Beano still ok to take when having both these conditions? Am just ASSUMING it is.
Beano is great for IBS, and it shouldn't affect GERD at all.
Hope this helps - I really don't know what to tell you about the prescription drug side effects you're having. I'm so sorry your docs have you so frustrated - I'd be climbing the walls by this point too... ![](/messageboards/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif)
