Hi - Taking too much fiber can interfere with the absorption of nutrition in your digestive tract. It could also, if it's insoluble fiber or soluble fiber that you didn't take with water, cause an intestinal blockage. This is much more likely to happen to people who have intestinal strictures from past episodes of inflammation (people with Crohn's or colitis, for example). Also, too much fiber, especially if you're not used to it, can cause a lot of gas, bloating, and general unpleasantness.
The minimum daily recommended dosage of fiber in the US is 25-30 grams or so, of which 10 grams should be soluble fiber. But there are countries where people eat up to 70 grams of fiber a day, so that gives you an idea of the wide range that's possible.
If a dose of Benefiber is 1 Tablespoon (the bottle should say), that will give you 3 grams of soluble fiber per dose, so 8 daily doses would be 24 grams of fiber. Does that sound right according to the bottle?
Best, Heather
