Hi,

I am new the site and this is my first post. I struggle with the C-type IBS for about 5 solid years now and maybe longer but has been really life changing this past 5 years. I have tried everything and have pretty much given up on the medical industry helping me.. I think they know they can't though they have tried. So I am pretty much back to being on my own with it. I am curious if anyone can really attest that the Yoga exercises really help with the IBS? Since this is something I have not yet tried. I have the typical pains, gas, bloat, weight gain and inability to "go" where it becomes quite debilating.
(You know those days when you wake up and wonder if this is going to be an emergency room day?) In lieu of the IBS condition I truly believe it has contributed to my high blood pressure which lately has been elevating and the medication my doctor has prescribed conflicts with any natural IBS products I am trying. I want off the BP meds due to side effects and am curious if the yoga really helps with the IBS too.. since I really have the gut feeling that if I could get the IBS under control, the blood pressure would be erradicated on it's own. Since i truly believe my high BP is caused by the IBS..i.e. weight gain, poor circulation, etc.? I would love to hear anyone elses thoughts on these two subjects and suggestions. Thanks so much for your time and really hoping this site will be of some benefit (hope) for me.

Thank
MissKitty

For a long time I was very stable throughout the month except when I'd get my period, and then the IBS would really flare. Yoga has completely stopped that (didn't happen right away, took about 9 months of regular practice, but it did happen).

Yoga has also helped me head off stress related attacks. There are days when I'm overwhelmed and overworked and so tired, it's just a recipe for disaster. If I head to class those nights I come out feeling calm, peaceful, relaxed, and I sleep like a rock. I virtually always wake up feeling normal again.

I'd bet yoga would definitely help not just your IBS but your blood pressure as well. You've literally got nothing to lose by trying, and a whole lot to gain.

And welcome to the boards!!!

but as I sit here typing this my Thursday night yoga class is in full swing, so obviously I don't meet my goal.

I'd say I average 4-5 days a week. More than that and I feel very proud of myself, less than that and my lower back starts to hurt so much that I don't sleep well.

I go to a school that has a wide range of classes and styles. Some are vinyassa, some ashtanga, one is a yin class, and there are levels from beginner to advanced. I like all of them except the very basic ones, so I'm always taking different styles and levels. Tonight, it will be an intermediate Hatha Flow class.

I've been trying to get into more yoga, but my confidence level is still pretty crappy because of my pain.
