Weight Watchers/menopause/anti-depressant meds?

Being newly diagnosed with IBS-C, I have a lot of questions. First, I am trying to follow Weight Watchers as well as Heather's diet. Has anyone else done this? How do you mesh the two eating plans together? Can I still lose weight doing both?
Two, I was wondering if there is a connection between menopause and IBS. I am approaching that age and will be seeing the gyn doc soon and just wondered.
Third, Heather, could you explain the serotonin level/anti-depressant link with IBS? I've read that sometimes an antidepressant helps with IBS, but I'm not sure what the connection is. Anyone with IBS-C seen an improvement after taking an antidepressant?

Hi there - Our former IBS Recipe moderator was a WW guru, and she posted tons of information about using the IBS diet with Weight Watchers. Use the "search" button at the top of the board to look for Weight Watchers post. In fact, a lot of Sharon's recipes (posted on the recipe board) have WW points given.

There may well be a connection between menopause and IBS changes, as research is increasingly suggesting a hormonal component to IBS. There aren't any black and white answers here yet, but some interesting studies have come out. Do a board search for that too - there have been several posts. Oh - and for the search, make sure you choose "all forums" and under the date range choose "all posts".

For the anti-depressant and serotonin info, check the hypnotherapy board here. I can't even tell ya how many articles and links ShawnEric has posted on this topic, and lots of other posters have related their experiences. Again (I sound like a broken record!) do a board search for antidepressants or serotonin, and you'll get tons of info.

For good anti-depressant info for IBS and a drug chart, check here web page The drugs that are most helpful for constipation are listed.

Just FYI, try to keep your board topic on target with the board you post on. This is the yoga board, so people will probably wonder what on earth the thread has to do with yoga.

Heather,
Thank you for your response. I'm sorry I posted it on the wrong board. Don't know how that happened. No wonder I have been looking for the post and your reply for the last couple of days and couldn't find it! Duh! Please be patient with me. I'm learning!

I almost moved the post but then figured you'd be looking for it and couldn't find it! Sometimes the boards are confusing, I know.

Best,
Heather
