SAFE NON CARB FOODS

Does anyone have alist of foods that they could possibly post that are non carb but safe? I have been on the stabalizing diet for a week and I feel GREAT! But the only problem is that I have gained a little weight. And if I keep eating all these carbs like this, I will never get myself in shape for my wedding. So any suggestions would be awesome! Thanks

How about chicken breasts, or sliced deli chicken or turkey - check there's no added milk proteins in it, better to get the shaved slices rather than the more processed ones. Fish is good too, even oily fish like tuna and salmon seem ok for most people. Soy is also more protein than carb, how about TVP?
Also, perhaps go for the safer veg rather than all the grains and potatoes, like carrots, squashes, parsnips, rutabagas. Heather's book also lists chestnuts.
Some of these will still be high-ish carb, but perhaps better than others.

Hi there - Britsarah has some good suggestions. I'd make sure that each snack/meal you eat has some carbs, though, for good health as well as good digestion. Proteins in and of themselves can be a bit constipating, so at the very least have a soluble fiber supplement if your meal doesn't have a lot of high soluble fiber foods.

I'd also concentrate on things like root veggies, brown rice, and oatmeal (if you can tolerate) and avoid or eliminate sugar. This will keep your soluble fiber up while your glycemic levels stay stable, and you'll avoid the empty calories in sugar.

Also watch your portions - it's easy to start eating more than you need just because you can finally eat without getting sick. And of course exercise, drink plenty of water, etc.

Do you find that TVP is high in sodium? I have never used it. How's the calorie & fat content?

Here's the nutritional info per serving for TVP:
Calories: 80
Total Fat: 0
Cholesterol: 0
Sodium: 2 mg
Potassium: 594 mg
Total Carbohydrates: 7g
Dietary Fiber: 4g
Sugars: 3g
Protein: 12g
