Question for all cooks- I recently bought pad thai rice noodles and there was a reipe to make pad thai on the back.
One of the ingredients is hot sauce. That is all it says, is hot sauce. What kind of sauce does that mean? I know it doesn't mean Tabasco, and that is the only kind I know of. Or is that what it means?(not big into hot sauces, I had been eating pretty bland til I found this site and realized I didn't have to)
If anyone can enlighten me, please do!
Thanks,
Sheri

The thing is that any hot sauce would probably do. My recipes for pad thai call for ketchup - no kidding! Anyway thai chili sauces would be fine but there are so many different kinds. If you have regular hot sauce (we use Frank's) you could use it. With the small amount you would use I doubt there would be a noticeable difference.

The only heat in my pad thai is the ground red thai pepper (it's dried peppers) that I sprinkle on at the end, and you could just use cayenne for that.

You could also use Sriracha, a Thai liquid hot sauce. Regular grocery stores are starting to carry that.

The Phad Thai that I make is from a brand called Thai Kitchen. It's really good and the sauce is included in the package, you have to add chicken, tofu and whatever else you want.

I also like to add a spoonful or two of peanut butter and it makes it taste way better (in my opinion)

Sriracha-is what they are talking about. It's wonderful...use sparingly! new
