I found soy milk yesterday!!! I'm so excited!

Smelt it but haven't tried it yet...kinda smelt like sour tapioca.

Any advice before I give it a go?

My husband says that people can have strong allergic reactions to soy milk...anybody had that problem before?

I never tried soy milk, but rice milk sure doesnt agree with me. My only advice is to intoduce the soy milk very slowly into your diet. mabey start with one glass a day after a soluble packed meal and gradually increase your glasses

There were other posts about people needing to take it slowly to get their body to adjust to the soy.

I think I have a little bit of a soy allergy. Whenever I drink cold soy milk (like in cereal or a small glass), my throat starts to itch a little. But, if it's baked in something or cooked (like with oatmeal), I'm fine. I need to go to an allergist to find out for sure (it's on the list!), but I don't have a problem with rice milk, so I usually use that. It all depends what I'm making.

What flavor did you find? Reg, van, choc?

This is really good advice. If you're not used to soy, you need to treat it like other bean products and introduce it gradually. If you're truly allergic, you'd likely already know that because you've probably eaten soy before. It is in a LOT of foods where you'd never even suspect, and a true food allergy will tend to show up even with small quantities ingested.

If you found fresh soy milk (usually only available in the states in Asian markets), and it's in regular plastic containers that are refrigerated, it's probably going to taste more "beany" than the soy milk in aseptic boxes. So you might want to just use it to cook with and not jump right into drinking a glass. As much as I love soy milk, the fresh kind is a bit too strongly flavored for me to want to drink plain, though it's great for cooking with.

Glad you found something, though! Now you can make puddings and custards and chowders, oh my!

Soy is pretty good -- it's not very close to milk in taste though, although I found I got used to it after a while. I usually use it just for dry cereals and cooking.

Flavor...hmmm...its a green container...its white....the other option was a brown one which my Japanese friend says isn't chocolate but has the plant itself ground into it or something....

I wish I could get flavors!
