Hi everyone! I live in Japan and I have IBS-D and I just wanted to share this great find with you. Maybe many of you already make something similar. You can find it in most convenience stores and is a staple in the Japanese diet. Its also great for road trips or an afternoon out.

Using Japanese rice (since its very sticky).
Scoop out a handful of cooked rice and put it on a piece of wax paper.
And form it into a triangle. And in the center of the triangle scoop out some rice and fill it with whatever filling that suits you. In Japan there are many varieties. sour plum, tuna with mayo (but of course use fat free or dairy free), salmon. You could also come up with your own filling. Then once you fill it cover it up with the rice you scooped out. In Japan, they cover it in seaweed but seaweed is a big trigger for me, so I use whatever seasoning I can find to season the outside of the rice. Dried spinach packages are common here or sesame seeds if you can handle them. This makes for a perfect snack and is a great soluble fiber base. Since the rice is sticky cover it is plastic wrap and when your ready to eat it you wont get your fingers sticky. In Japan many people eat this for lunch!

Hope its helpful.
Madeline!

I haven't made them at home but they're my favorite thing to order at Japanese restaurants. I really love a little salmon in the middle of the rice.

Best,

Hi, new here,
Just a quick question; can seeweed be a trigger? I love sushi and always thought it would be totally IBS safe, with all the rice and seefood. But sometimes it will trigger an attack (but not always, so I can't stay away!!)

While seaweed is high in soluble fiber about 1/3 of the fiber is insoluble which can be a problem for some people.
