Hi - I have just found this wonderful site and recieved my first package including the Cooking for IBS. This morning I made the French Baguette, but it turned out stodgy - and really heavy, its tastes ok but I wondered what I did wrong - I have never made bread with yeast before - did I do something wrong?

Hi - make sure your yeast had not expired (there will be an exp date on the package). When you dissolve the yeast the water can only be lukewarm - if it's too hot it will kill the yeast.

Did the dough rise properly? You should see it double in size.

Don't worry - baking with yeast can take a few tries but once you have the basics it's pretty easy - and really delicious!
