For those of you who cannot eat beans (like kidney, navy, black beans, pinto beans...) I found a way to be able to incorporate them back into my diet. I have found that boiling the beans prior to added them to a recipe, makes them easier for me to digest. If you are using canned beans I boil them for an hour. If using dried beans I boil them for about 3 hours (until they are squishy). Hope some of you are able to enjoy beans again!

I think the worst part of the bean is the skin, I find that if I puree them and use them in recipes they are fine

I believe so, but I have been trying to make sure I have enough protein in my diet, so I have been trying to work them back into my diet. There is only so much chicken you can eat! I cannot tolerate soy products, and I do not like seafood at all.

Hi - Only the skin of beans is insoluble fiber. The interior creamy part is soluble fiber. Anything that will minimize the insoluble fiber (like cooking beans till very, very tender, pureeing them, chopping them, etc.) will make them much easier for IBS.

Best,
Heather

I just wanted to say thank you for sharing that! Before being diagnosed with IBS I loved to eat beans all the time (one of my triggers, but I loved to eat them cold out of the can) and do want to be able to have them back in my diet. I have been a bit put off in reintroducing these back in, but will give this a try this week with some rice I think. Thank you again!!
