I tried making the chocloate chip peppermint ice dream today and I wasn't sure when to put the extract and the Creme de Menthe into the mixture. I put them in just before placing the mixure into the fridge to cool. Also, it smelled a little like rotten eggs when it was in the ice cream maker. What did I do wrong?

Well, geez, it would have helped if I'd said in the recipe when to add the mint flavorings. Just whisk them in after you've taken the custard off the heat, before you put the mixture in the fridge to cool.

Don't know about the rotten egg smell - that sounds awful, and I've never had it happen. How did your final ice cream come out?

Thank for the quick reply. I put them in just as you had said. My daughters loved the ice cream, but I thought it had a little bit of unusal after taste. Maybe it is just in my head . I will have to try to make it again.

It may have been the creme de menthe that gave the aftertaste. I can taste a bit of that too. You can omit it, or just make a totally different flavor. I've been meaning to drag out my ice cream freezer and try to make a maple walnut version. And next summer I want to try a fresh peach, and fresh strawberry, and maybe cherry....:)
