Hi,
When I think of cocoa, I think of the milk already being in it. SO, I'm wondering just what is meant by Hershey's Cocoa for making the cocoa and also in making the chocolate cakes???
Thanks a bunch!

Marnie

It should actually be called Hershey's Cocoa Powder. As the name suggests, it's a dry powdered version of chocolate, unsweetened though.

Hey......thanks Karin for clearing up the confusion. Think it comes in the dark brown Hershey's box that my mom used to make cocoa and choc. syrup from. Been so long since I've had chocolate,it was hard to remember.

This has no milk in it as I remember.

Tks again.....Marnie

Marnie: yes that's the one. It also has other brand names though, I think Nestle's has one and some other store brands are probably the same thing. I use carob instead as I think the chocolate bothers me.

Karin: Yes, I imagine there are other brands. I just might try the carob too as I don't know if chocolate is good for me or not.......at this point!

Tks again.

Hi Marnie - What matters here is that you're using a pure, unsweetened cocoa powder. You wouldn't want to eat this or mix it into a drink straight - it's very bitter. It's just for cooking. Hershey's cocoa powder (in the brown tin) is good because it has a nice rich chocolately flavor when you bake with it. It's also what Hershey's syrup is made from. Neither the cocoa powder nor the syrup have any fat, which is why they're safe for IBS. Also, the caffeine in chocolate is tied to the fat, so when you remove one you remove the other.

Thus, the many delicious chocolate desserts that are IBS safe!

Hi Heather,
GREAT NEWS that the syrup is fine too! I love it, but didn't know that the caffeine (which) bothers me too, PLUS the fat was taken out of this and the cocoa baking powder.
Really.... appreciate the info!

See there's several cakes ......1 like we used to have as kids with the gooey choc. on the bottom. Made it a couple yrs ago for the lst time in yrs. for Tksgiving at my sisters. Was a GREAT surprise for her........since it had been soooooo long. Think this is an OLD recipe (my grandmother had it)!!!

Going to make a cup of cocoa in a few mins. Want to make the rice krispie treats too. Love chocolate and have such a CRAVING for it since it's been so long.......!
Guess it shows that I NEVER cook anything w/chocolate. In fact, w/this problem........have gotten so I HATE to cook and used to LOVE IT!!!!
