Just ordered Sunbeam 1.5-lb Expressbake Breadmaker from www.overstock.com $54.99 + $1.00 (yes one dollar) shipping. The order has been confirmed, but when I go the site now... it says none in stock... so I hope my order gets filled fast! I can't wait to start using it.... I'll let ya all know when I get it and tell you about any experiments I do

Anyone else have this same one and have any pointers? I'm gonna go back and do a search for "bread machine" I saw a few posts about a book that was recommended.

The book is Electric Bread. Sharon recommended it, and I ended up getting a copy from ebay. I got it around the end of spring though, so I only tried one recipe so far (which was really good!), but I plan on making more soon now that it's fall. Hopefully your breadmaker (I have a Breadman) has a setting for pizza dough. We love making pizza with it. My fiance and I each make our own personal pizzas - mine's IBS-friendly, his usually isn't! LOL

I'll have to look for that book Yes, mine will have a pizza setting...... that will be great.... easier then ordering pizza only chicken or shrimp and black olives..... I never did order red sauce on pizza (don't care for it that way).....but I also started asking for no cheese.... just have my oven at home ready to go when the pizza arrives... I sprikle soy cheese on my side and throw it the oven for a few! LOL

What a neat idea for order out pizza! You put soy cheese on your half, and you husband puts regular on his, then you just pop it back in the oven for a few minutes?

Yep... we order the whole thing with no sauce and cheese only on the half with all his MEAT then when it gets there I have the cookie sheet ready.... just take two pieces (to start) sprinkle and throw them under the broiler just long enough for the soy cheese to melt.... I don't even close the oven door.... I just stand guard! LOL

When I first started on the boards, I used Mags (couldn't use the username, hence the Mags2003, because someone else already had Mags - I've yet to see this person! LOL). I don't know why, I didn't want to use my real name. (Melissa) I've thought about changing it on here, but everyone already knows me as Mags. Never use that name any other time in my life - except when I was really little my mom used to call me that or Maggie May. Everyone calls me either Melissa or Missy. I'm the girl of many names! LOL I guess you could say Mags is my IBS name!

Hi Shell, That's a great price for the breadmaker! Thanks for sharing the website and would you please post a F/U msge here letting us know that you did receive it, how long it took to arrive and was it in brand new condition?

I've never bought anything over the web. I've been unwilling to do so after all I've read about many rip-off sites. However, since you've already ordered it, if yours arrives and you're pleased w/ it, I'll trust your feedback and go ahead to buy one from the same site. I've wanted a breadmaker for ages but they were always too expensive until I read your msge about this one! Thanks!!

Sure lithelady I'll let ya know. I think the $1.00 shipping is only until midnight Sat I think... I don't think they carry them all the time either... hence the name of the site "overstock.com"

Where do you live? I'd be happy to do some surffin on the internet for you to find one local at a good price if you like.... I buy off the internet all the time.

Hi Shell,
Wow, I really appreciate your offer to "surf" for a good price for me. I've often thought of getting one at Costco but I'm never sure whether the brand they have there is a good one.

I guess what I really want to know before I buy one is:
1)what features I want and which brands of breadmakers offer these features
2)which of the ones that offer the features I want have a good reputation as a breadmaker brand.

Do you have suugestions/ideas about these 2 questions?
Thanks, LL

LL - A lot of times when I want to buy some type of new gadget, I check out www.epinions.com and see what others recommend. Just in case you were interested.

Also, I have a Breadman and I'm very happy with it. It has many options - yeast bread, quick breads, dough cycle, pizza dough cycle, and jams.

LL: Here are two reviews on the one I ordered.......

What features are you looking for LL then maybe others on this site can let you know if the one they have might work well for your needs.

Thanks to both of you for the great idea about epinions.com, I've never heard of it and I LOVE using the web for research, so I'll go there soon, have to get some work done right now....I'm on a self-appointed Sunday PM break.

As far as features that I want I actually don't know b/c I've never looked into what features are available. Sounds like there are a number of them so I hope epinions can teach me about them as I review the various diff brands' options. Any recommdtn's either of you have about what are "must have" features?

Txs again. This site is so cool! I really think joining here and feeling like I've found a new community of friends is helping me to improve even more than if I were just doing H's diet!!

Yes, you're welcome LL!

My bread machine has options I never use (to make jam and make quick breads), but the one I love the most is the pizza dough. I think I like that better than the regular bread option! LOL

Shell - what cook book did you end up getting? Was it Electric Bread or a different one?

I know there are two - I have the first one. Here's a list of the first few breads - almond poppy, apple oat, apricot, baked potato, etc.

I'm not sure, but I think you have the other one. Let me know.

Oh - and if it is the same, the only one I've tried so far is the Apricot Bread - yummy! There is one called peaches & cream that I've been wanting to try.

I have ordered from overstock before. You will probable get it in 5 days. BTW if you have any problems call them. I ordered a cordless mouse for my husband's birthday from there and we had a little problem. It was something we could fix but we decided to contact them. They gave us a credit on our next order. It wasn't a huge credit, not enough for the product, but I was able to buy books for the girls. Tory can still use the mouse so it wasn't a complete loss.

So, the label & box say "Oster".... but really it is the same thing. I have not used it yet... but will this weekend I'm sure.

FYI... I just want to www.ebay.com and did a search for "oster bread machine 5858" a whole bunch of NEW machines still in boxes came up. So if anyone in interested... you might get a good deal HAPPY BIDDING!

I got my Electric Bread-second edition 1997 cookbook.... I'll make something out of it the next week.

Mags: do you use the powdered milk? I tried to find powdered soy at Safeway and the PCC Health food market and did not see anything. But I'll keep looking for something like that.....

I found powdered soy at Safeway.... BUT I did not buy it only because I did not know for sure it if was the right thing. It was called "Better Than Milk" and it was $11.99... does that sound about right? Here is a link to what I saw. I was not able to find a direct website with info on it. http://www.outletnutrition.com/better-than-milk.html
