Last night I bought Ginger root because every recipe I went to make always called for it.

But then last night I looked for something to make it in and couldn't find anything.

What does a person use this for (besides tea)? What does it taste like? Maybe I should have asked these questions BEFORE I bought it LOL

Thanks,

Hey LB!

I don't know the best way to describe how it tastes, but I love the flavor of ginger.

Some from Eating for IBS are Gingerbread, Tandoori Spiced Mango Shrimp, Jamaican Chicken with Ginger Peach Chutney, Wok-Steamed Teriyaki Ginger Salmon, and Grilled Tuna with Mustard Seeds and Ginger Honey Mustard Sauce.

There's also some on the Recipe Exchange. Do a search just of that forum for ginger with no time limits, and lots of stuff comes up.

Did you buy fresh ginger root? I use it in vegie lo mein and in curries. My dad uses it when he makes stir-fry. If you need to keep it fresh, you can freeze it (wrap it up tightly or put it in a Rubbermaid container). Then just break off a chunk when you need it, or grate what you need and return it to the freezer. It will stay fresh forever as long as it doesn't thaw and get soggy. What does it taste like? Not like powdered ginger, that's for sure! To me, it tastes kind of lemony, if that makes sense . Good luck experimenting!

LOL - I do that all the time! I have no problem telling others how to do things, but when it comes to me doing the same exact thing, my mind goes blank.

Thanks Tess Louise:

I will have to try it in a stir fry or something. And it's a good thing I asked what it tastes like because I was thinking like Ginger for sure!

Thanks again,

Fresh ginger root is great... I use it sliced/chopped very finely when I do chicken with pineapple sauce, just toss in ginger to taste... also very good with pork (and pineapple!) Also for tea, and of course you can make candy of it, though probably cheaper to buy candied ginger than to futz around in the kitchen making homemade.

No - pork is a trigger. Skip trying it on pork!
