Can you take too much Heather's fiber? If a person is IBS -D, and am at 12grams a day and still having cramps and loose stools, how much can I increase it to without it making my diarrhea worse?

Hi Mimi - soluble fiber can't turn constipation into diarrhea or vice versa, it's just a bowel motility regulator. But, you do want to be sure all fiber increases are gradual, as fiber is literally indigestible so you don't want to suddenly overwhelm your gut.

A typical final dose of the tummy fiber for diarrhea is 1-3 tablespoons per day, total. You should see improvements as you gradually get your dose up there, don't rush it.

If you've seen things get better but not ALL better, continue the gradual increase as you may need closer to 18 grams per day than 12 grams. If you stabilize somewhere along the way just stay there.

Please keep me posted.

XOXO
Heather
