IBS impact from sex?

With accupuncture and diet changes, I'm really getting this thing in check. I still flare up, and experience more discomfort at night, but the symptoms are much more manageable. Now that I'm getting healthier, I've begun to consider there may be a connection between sex and IBS related constipation. Does anyone else experience such reprocutions? Any suggestions to abate the problem?

sorry, i'm not sure i'm completely clear with what you're asking/the connection you're making. are you saying you think that having sex *makes* you C? or that it helps?

In theory, yes. I can't decide if it is actually having sex that throws my system off so that I am constipated the next day, or if it is the quasi-break in routine/sleep schedule that's impacting me, since I know that for us IBS sufferers, sleep and keeping to routine is key... Am I really the only one connecting these two - or just the first to put the question out there?

No, surprisingly you're not the first. But, if you *really* have IBS, you wouldn't even be thinking about it let alone participating in it. If you're feeling that good on a regular basis, you do not have IBS, plain and simple. Occasional constipation is not IBS. Lots of pain, gas, horrifying BM's, NOW you're talking IBS! Additionally, I don't see what the big preoccupation is with a simple reproductive act. Heck, I'd rather have a decaf cappacino and a darn good donut . -Bob

Sorry Bob... I MUST disagree with you 100% on all of your comment.
Yes, I have noticed having worse IBS symptoms the day following sex. I don't know that one really has to do with the other...but yes, I have noticed it.
I DO have IBS-C, but I'm not C all the time nor in pain all the time and I DO CRAVE sex!!
However...I don't know what any of this has to do with "fitness" !! LOL I guess sex IS considered exercise to some!! LOL

Shell, Well what you have bares little resembelance to what to what me,Beth,Cyndy, and a whole host of others have. The medical community has lumped a variety of diseases into one category which are unfortunately quite different. A friend of mine told he had IBS too, and said you can cure it by just taking metamucil. Yeah right, uh huh! As far as this thread goes, I did not start it. -Bob

Bob....
I know you did not start this thread.... but I'm going to ask Heather to stop it... your comments have just opened another can of worms that needs the lid put back on it fast...
I don't compare myself to others here... we are all here for support and for you to say I or others here don't have it as bad as you or others that have it (and listing their names) is defeating that purpose ... we are all in this IBS world TOGETHER no matter what each persons severity is...

which I realize has nothing to do with sex but it is the major board and gets the most general questions. The subject has come up before and you'll find others have noticed connections too.
