Anyone heard of the Specific Carbohydrate Diet? Heather?

My alternative practitioner is recommending this diet as a possible way of dealing with my IBS. Was wondering if anyone else has tried it. It's supposed to help with IBS, IBD, celiac, Crohn's, etc. Allowed carbs have a single molecule structure that makes them easier to absorb. Chain molecules are not allowed. Sort of makes sense. However, the diet allows certain dairy products which is surprising to me, and it doesn't allow much in the way of grains.

My doc said to try it for a month and see if it is helpful. I'm feeling a little better this week, so I'm not sure if I want to stir anything up!

The website that tells about the diet is http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info

Thanks!

Have you done a board search with no time limits for "Specific Carbohydrate"? I know it's been discussed here before....

You might want to check on the Crohn's board, I don't think Jill supported it.

Do a board search for past posts - I wouldn't touch this for IBS. -nt- new

I tried it for about 3 months. My results were inconclusive. Sometimes I thought it was helping and sometimes I didn't. It is a VERY difficult diet to follow. It has a similar theory to another diet that I read about in a book called "What your doctor may not tell you about IBS". That diet is also kind of low carb-like a South Beach diet with some modifications. I tried it too with inconclusive results. The reason I tried both of those diets is because I didn't have very good luck following the Eating For IBS diet. I wish I knew why it didn't work for me. I am going to try it again and see if I have any results this time.
