I HAVE CONCERNS WITH GOING FROM A MAET BASED DIET TO A FIBRE BASED DIET BECAUSE I HAVE LIVED ON MEAT ALL MY LIFE.I AM NOT SURE HOW THE DIET WILL MAKE ME FEEL ,THAT IS, IF IT WILL BE SATISFYING ENOUGH FOR ME, AND HOW MY ENERGY LEVELS  [color:blue] [/color] WILL BE.

Louise,
Any change in diet does take a bit of getting used to but I look at in that the pain of IBS is so bad that in no way am I going to contribute to making it worse and I'm afraid red meat does just that.
I have been on heather's diet about 9 months and i wouldn't touch any of those danger foods with a ten foot pole anymore. I thought I would miss hot chips etc but now when i see or even smell them the thought of eating them makes me feel quite ill!
I guarantee you will feel healthier for the change. My husband loves all heather's recipes and we would both prefer to sit down to a meal of jamaican chicken than go out to a restaurant.
Good luck, let us know how you go.

Hi Louise - I'd start out with the soluble fiber supplements at a small dose (just 1 t twice daily, or 1 pill twice daily) and gradually increase. You shouldn't have problems with the soluble fiber foods.
You can easily start by just substituting seafood of any kind, or skinless chicken breasts, or skinless turkey breasts, where you'd normally use red meat. You can even get ground low fat or close to fat free chicken or turkey, and use that for ground meat. You can also start experimenting with things like fat free turkey bacon and fat free turkey ham.
Start using soy milk in place of dairy in cooking, and substituting two egg whites for each whole egg. Your protein level won't change too much, but the animal proteins you'll be eating are much easier to digest than those in red meat and dairy. You'll also be drastically decreasing your fat intake, but you won't be going fat free.
You should have plenty of energy and feel full. Complex carbs (what most soluble fiber foods are) give your body and brain fuel. Fiber gives you a feeling of being full.
Do make sure you drink lots of water - that's crucial for the soluble fiber to work.
Please keep us posted on how things go.
Best, Heather
