Hi, welcome to the boards!

When I first started taking my soluble fiber supplement, I was getting quite a bit of gas pain even though I was taking a low dose. It took a few days (maybe a week?) to settle down, but now I am fine (unless I eat something bad...)

Hi - Welcome to the board. Usually as bowel function improves pain decreases, so hopefully that will change for you very soon. H2 may well be right on the money, and that increasing your soluble fiber (especially if you were not eating much of it before, and especially if you've started a supplement) may be something your body has to adjust to. You might make sure you're starting the supplement at a small dose (1t twice daily) and eating small portions of foods frequently. Staying active and (if possible) exercising should help your bowels adjust and stop the spasms.

Also, try drinking lot of strong hot peppermint tea. It's a smooth muscle relaxant and painkiller and can really help. If you have upper GI problems use fennel, ginger, or chamomile tea instead.

Best,
Heather

Mostly I was diagnosed by my symptoms, what he always referrs to as "classic" although I don't really know anyone else with this. I've also had a sigmoidoscopy, some barium drink thing where you lay down and the table moves you up and down from head to toe(showed my gerd), also a haieta scan to rule out gallbladder. More I know but you get the point!!!! Do you feel like a lab rat sometimes? And now I'l be having an endoscopy and a colonoscopy.I cannot live with this pain between my lower ribs anymore. Its so bad and it lasts for 8-12 hours at a time. Do you or anyone you know ever get this????
Thanks for listening,
Cora

Hmm...can you be more specific about your symptoms as you see them? That might be helpful!!! I get gas, bloating, some cramping (mostly trapped gas), and constipation (those are my IBS related symptoms anyway). I've had both the colonoscopy and upper endoscopy (and the barium upper GI for that matter). Endoscopy is a piece of cake! Colonoscopy...sip the fleet phospho or whatever they give, you don't chug it, and you should be ok. Make sure you have a good book to read--and get the television ready with a good movie! It's not so bad--and if you need help/support...most of us have been through it!

I'm SO SORRY you're going through so much pain right now--I hope you get to the bottom of things soon and that you begin to get better ASAP!

((hugs))
