All of a sudden something is not going right....I've been eating well (following the diet), taking the Acacia, seeing a hypnotherapist, drinking a lof of Peppermint and/or Fennel tea and for the past four days have had very loose stool- not quite D and there's no cramping.
I tried cutting out the soy products, tried soy products with Beano....it's a little bizarre. Even with Beano two Veggie Dogs gave me a lot of gas....What could be the problem here?
Thanks for all of your advice- this is about the only place I cn talk openly about IBS....
Any suggestions?

How much acacia are you taking, could be too much for you.

Hi,

Make sure nothing you are taking like vitamins, gum, mints, etc, has Sorbitol in it. That is a big trigger for IBS.

Veggie dogs. Yeah, I had a chicken apple sausage last week and ended up with the worst D attack, but mine was accompanied by cramping too. I just think they put stuff in those "dogs" that's a trigger. Either it's the pork casing (yep, they all have pork casings!), the dark poultry meat (a trigger), or the sodium nitrate -- regardless, they're not safe.

How much Acacia are you taking? Do you know what the concentration is? I didn't. I was trying to increase my dosage, all the while completely unaware that I was already at the max! I thought all SFS were the same -- they're NOT! Beware. With the acacia, it's 1T = 5g. (I thought it was 1T = 2.25g.) All I had to do was read the package, but I was too stupid! DOH.

Anyway, if you take more SFS than your body can tolerate, you'll end up with gas, bloating, cramps, diarrhea, and TERRIBLE URGENCY! I got stuck several times recently. Bad, very bad.....

I don't blame the soy. If you cut out the soy products and still have the symptoms, it ain't the soy. No cramping, eh? Hmmm.... I wonder if you just need a probiotic? Have you checked out Jarro-Dophilus EPS? web page My poops became "firmer and more fully-packed" when I started on Jarro. Great stuff.

Yes, of course you can talk openly here about your IBS. That's what we're all about. All of us in the same boat. But fear not -- because that same boat ain't gonna leak, my friend!

Cheers,
Bev

Evan, did you read my post in this board about Acacia dosages? web page and also web page

How are you feeling on that dosage? You're at about 8g/day. You can increase it SLOWWWWLY until you start having the symptoms indicated above, then cut back a little. You've reached your tolerance level. But if you're having those symptoms now, Evan, perhaps 8g IS your tolerance level, just like Mags.

Bevrs- Thanks for your reply....But if I'm taking 1.25 t 3x a day, isn't that just a little bit over 5g. (1T=3t correct??). Could I really be at my max?

I stay away from "dogs" in any form. From real hot dogs to any veggie type. Any of those frozen foods with mixed ingredients can have who knows what all mixed in, especially whey. No frozen mixed foods for me - period. I have to know every ingredient that I'm eating. Even when they list them, sometimes it is vague, like spices, or flavorings and you don't know what you are getting.
