I've been having problems with heartburn lately, so I did a search on WebMD and one of the ads that came up with the topic was low acid coffee. I know there have been posts about this in the past, however I did not see anything about this kind of coffee called Hevla. Champlain Coffee

Since it says it specially brewed to remove the irritants, would this be safe for IBS? Coffee is the one thing I just cannot seem to quit once and for all.

Thanks for your time!

i wonder if it would be ok? how nice it would be to have a cuppa joe again!

if you decide to order a bag from the site to check it out, keep in mind that you should get the Decaff, since caffeine is a no-no for IBS. also remember that decaf coffees still have some caffeine, believe it or not, so if you're really sensitive to it you may want to stay away or save it for consumption only on your good stable days!

let us know if you try it! the diet really doesn't give great results if you're still ingesting a major irritant like coffee, so most of us have given it up reluctantly, (and many of us miss it terribly!)

Have any of you tried Rocamojo as an alternative to coffee? I tried to order some a while back, but their website had trouble so that didn't happen. I was just wondering if it would be worth chasing this up or not? I miss coffee.

I have not tried Rocamojo. I have actually seen it at a grocery store near me but I've been afraid to spend the money on it. I've seen mixed reviews of it here on the boards. I am curious about it and I will probably break down and just buy it...I just wish I could taste it first

I follow the IBS diet to an extent. I have a hard time when I'm out or at other people's houses. I feel like I can't tell people I can't eat something they've made - I've tried to with people that I'm close to and I always feel like they're offended It's not always easy to explain IBS - a lot of people still think it's all in your head

The other thing is that I still drink coffee most mornings I know I shouldn't, but I just have not found an acceptable alternative yet. Even though I make mostly decaf, I still feel like it perks me up in the morning. I know I keep going on and on about coffee...I'll try to quit whining about it I know a lot of people miss it from what I've read on the boards. I'm actually surprised that I've ended up feeling so strongly about it!!

Gee, I'd like to know more myself. (I'm one of those Jen's talking about.) Is it possibe we might be able to have coffee after all (even if it isn't Starbuck's)?

WOW!

Linz, several people have tried it but didn't like it. Did you do a search? Because I seem to recall there was one person who did like it -- but I don't think that person is with us anymore..... ? I mean, she's just not on the Boards anymore. (Oops.)

because i have had such great responses from people when i tell them i have stomach problems and can't eat what's available. i think it's 'cause i always start with flattery and then definitively and confidently say "but i can't eat xyz because i will definitely get sick. it's not your cooking/the chef's cooking, it's the milk/bread/fried-ness.

really, so many people these days are on this or that diet, i'm surprised anyone bats an eye at all! i have a friend on weight watchers, a diabetic friend, and several friends doing low-carb, high-protein. oh, and there are a few friends who are vegetarians to some degree or another. no one really ever even asks me why i turn down cake or whatever. they just assume i'm dieting! and they're right, it's just not the kind of diet they think.

when i'm invited to someone else's house, i always offere to bring something. i say something like "what can i bring to help you out?" and then find something IBS friendly that goes with that. heck, i even made deviled eggs for an Easter get together, even though i can't eat them, but also took a potato salad that i CAN eat. that way i always know there's SOMETHING i can eat! my favorite thing to take is the pumpkin cheesecake that's on the recipe boards. man, oh man, is that good! and everyone loves it. no one guesses that it's got tofu in it! YUM! the way i figure it, if i can't eat any of the meal, i ought to at least get some dessert!

i found that it was very important for me to take responsibility for myself. i'm not a b*tch, but if i tell someone politely that i can't partake in something they've made because it will negatively effect my health and they have a problem with that, then they'll just have to have a problem. i REFUSE -i FLAT OUT REFUSE! - to be sick just to save someone's feelings from being hurt. that's why i make sure i'm complimenting them while i turn it down. it's always the truth! "wow, that smells great, but unfortunately jalapeno poppers are stuffed with cheese and i can't have them. i sure wish i could!" or "you know how i love your triple chocolate cake, but ever since i started this diet for my tummy troubles i've been feeling really good and unfortunately cake is a no-no for me now. i really wish it weren't!" the other thing i occasionally do is say "you know i love your homemade ice cream, but that's really going to kill my stomach. you know i love it, though! tell ya what, i'm going to have ONE bite and just savor it!" (usually one bite isn't going to kill me, especially if i've had soluble fiber first!)

and i've never had anyone tell me it's all in my head, thank goodness, or i'd actually have to describe all the things i've gone through. really, they don't want to hear it! i'd make it down and dirty, too, man! i've been waiting for that, but everyone's being so darn NICE.

I was addicted to coffee something terrible. I began drinking the stuff back in 1959, so I had a 40-year addiction BIG time. I was having a bad time with my IBS, despite the fact that I was following the diet religiously -- except I refused to give up the coffee. When Heather discovered my cheating, she got me off the coffee with one post:
Oh Wow, This is a Huge Problem!

She was right. Her post was just last Dec. 10; I gave up my beloved javva that day and haven't had any since. The very next day, for the first time in years I had no cramps.

I won't say it's been easy. I still miss my java. Every time I pass by the coffee aisle at Safeway, I have problems. I don't go anywhere near espresso stands because the aroma drives me crazy. When I'm at the nail salon and they brew a pot, I have to step outside. It's hard. A 40-year addiction isn't easy to break.

But you just have to believe me: nothing -- NOTHING -- tastes as good as the excruciating pain from cramping with IBS -- NOTHING! As much as I love the stuff, I love living a semi-normal life better.

Bev

P.S.: I can't respond to your post about people thinking it's "all in your head" without getting angry. While I wouldn't wish this on anyone, when they take that attitude, I want them to have to suffer just one cramp like we do and then see if it's all in THEIR head!

It's another coffee substitute, a mix of roasted herbs, roots, and nuts, that you brew like coffee. It sounds like it would be great for IBS, and I'm wondering if people would prefer it to the Rocamojo?

I guess you'd have to try it to find out. Personally, I'd be too afraid to, as I have zero tolerance for coffee, period. Just the taste would probably set me off.

I would wonder if their steam process is removing everything from the beans that could bother IBS. I just don't know how you could know that for sure unless you actually drank a cup.
