Is anyone else here struggling with their weight? When I started the IBS diet I began to feel somewhat better but I feel I have gained some weight. Is it normal or am I just doing something wrong?

i take it you didn't need to gain weight? silly question, i guess....
maybe your body is like mine: i gained about 5 pounds at the beginning of sticking to the diet. i think because i had not been eating for so long, my body got so excited to see calories coming in it just grabbed every single one and held on to it! i lost it after a few weeks without trying, though.
make sure you're not doing what i'm doing right now: don't eat too many sugary things. since they're "safe," things like rice krispy treats and Peeps and the other all-sugar snacks are very attractive. but if you're unable to stop at just one, steer clear!
if you want, come join us over in the Living Room. Some of us post daily under "Losers" and talk about our weight loss/gain/management strategies.... most of us are trying to lose and we use the posting as a way of having to have some accountability to someone when we cheat! C'mon over if you want...

I'm strugglin' -- you bet I am. However, it has nothing to do with the IBS diet. As my doc told me, "calories in, calories out." If you're eating more than you're burning off, you'll gain weight. "You can gain weight on celery!" I've heard it all from him.
Many people here have the opposite results from ours -- they're losing weight on the program. Some have lost 40-50 pounds!
I'm seeing a nutritionist on Wednesday, and I'm anxious to hear what she has to say, but I don't think she'll be able to shed any more light on the problem than I've already known or heard. At my age, the metabolism has just come to a screeching halt. That means I have to eat less and work out more. I've tried cutting my portions down, still eating soluble fiber every few hours, but instead of a whole potato roll, I have a half. Oh, and I've cut out all sugar.
Fun stuff, eh?

i lost 40 pounds last year being sick, but this diet helped me keep it all off (except for that 5 i gained then quickly lost) (and the 6 i freakishly gained this weekend, but them's the new drugs talkin' i suspect).
sugar is the key!

So glad I searched and found this post. I have done the same. Packed on about 5 pounds, and am so sad about it after having just lost 20. I'll try coming to the living room, but I am totally frustrated, and wondering if the starches are doing it to me. I have actually cut down on sugar a lot, so I know its not that. GRRRR>>......

if you decreased your protein intake and increased carbohydrates, you need to make sure you're drinking plenty of water. If you came from a high protein diet, this is actually dehydrating. Once you stop, your body holds on to the extra water it can now retain - this is a good thing, because your body needs the water. And as odd as it sounds, if you increase the amount of water you're drinking, it will actually allow your body to eliminate the extra water/bloating. That 5 pounds may just be water weight, and drinking more water will eliminate it.
