Can attacks happen literally after you eat, like 1/2 hour (m)

I went to Wendy's ( I know a no-no) but I was my husband and kids & they wanted to stop and I was hungry. Normally a baked potato with a tiny amt. of sour cream doesn't bother me but today I added a chicken sandwich with <<gasp>> a slice of bacon. Literally with a 1/2 hour I felt the rumbling and had a slight pain and I ran to the bathroom for a nice attack of "D". Can it happen that fast or do you think it was something I ate yesterday that all of a sudden came on me?

I really have to be more careful! Good thing was I was home!
Sandy

I think it can happen at anytime... anywhere... I've gotten sick immediately after eating things many, many times.

But don't beat yourself up, we all cheat now and again...

Yep, it can happen right away. Do a board search for the term gastrocolic reflex, searching all past posts, and you'll find info about this.

Best,
Heather

Everyone's heard this story a million times, but I think it bears repeating.

I can't resist the salad bar at Izzy's. Incredible fresh greens, arugula, fresh raw broccoli, fresh peas, and AMAZING honey dijon dressing. I only have a small plate, very small, and I eat a bread stick beforehand. I'm a good girl. And I never go back for seconds. Just a little plate, right? (I do finish my plate, though. )

I get out to the parking lot, into the car with hubby, pull out of the parking lot and onto the main drive, get up to the traffic light, and BAM ZOOM!

I just know I'm not gonna make it home, I just KNOW it! I sit there in the car, looking up at the sky, breathing deeply, remembering Michael's words, "there are no demands or insistence," "there are no demands or insistence," "AWWWLLLMMMMMM......"

I congratulate myself as we pull into the parking lot of our condo and I run up the stairs, just in time to make it to the toilet, where I spend the right of the night.

Oh yeah, it can hit suddenly. You bet.

anytime you eat it starts the process and something could have already been in there waiting to come out.

Well I suppose I have nothing more to add than what everyone else has but I can sense an attack within minutes. I'm just learning about this and so tonight, we had some baked fish with lightly sauteed onions and green beans. THere was nothing fancy and I thought it was okay. (I LOVE sauteed onions). I think I ate maybe two or three little forkfuls and I could feel the rumbling in my gut. I still had them on my plate and I got up to look at my list of insoluble fiber. Sure enough, onions AND green beans. I told my husband I could not continue eating and I did the right thing. So right now, I'm hurting. I made some mint tea. I had a glass of wine. Wine seems to help me but I can't say it will help for everyone. I can feel the cramping subsiding now but its not gone yet.

Missdarl, that meal might have worked for you had you first had some soluble fiber, like a French roll or a slice of sourdough bread. How well cooked were those green beans and onions?

You'll get it. Don't get discouraged. We've ALL been there!

Hi Bev,

About 1/2 hour before eating, I had some of the portobello mushroom bruschetta. I figured with the mushrooms and french bread I'd be okay. THe onions were sauteed pretty well and the green beans were not soft, so maybe that was it?? I dont know. Yes, I feel like I'm being trained by an electric fence- LOL
