Hi all! I'm new to the boards, but a long time IBS sufferer. I'm trying to implement Heather's suggestions from "Eating for IBS" into my life.
My question is, how do you deal with well-meaning friends who tell you that low-carb is the way to go to be healthy?
I, for one, am sick to death of all of the low carb messages that are all over the TV and in magazines. Thanks for letting me vent!

I agree!!! I hate the big red A (Atkins) all over the place...Low carb everything!!! Its really annoying!
I would just tell people that your body does well with carbs and they really help your tummy! I can't even imagine eating all that red meat!!
I'm with ya all the way!!!

I'm with you on that one! I am so annoyed by this whole low-carb craze. I eat small meals every few hours so people see me eating at my desk a lot at work. For some reason, some of these people feel that it's ok for them to comment on my food all the time. I am constantly hearing stuff like "I don't know how you can eat all those carbs and stay so thin" blah blah blah. I usually just smile and don't say anything at all for fear that I will flip out and tell them to mind their own darn business and stop worrying about what I eat!! So, don't worry, you're not alone!

that I'm skinny BECAUSE of all the carbs I eat. And because of all the meat and dairy and fat that I DON'T eat. Say it with a smile, and leave 'em wondering....

Thanks so much for the words of encouragement. However, I am overweight, so I can't use that comeback. I suppose I just need to be able to tell people to mind their own business, huh?

Well, you could scare them with what the majority of doctors think is going to happen in 20 years to all the low carb folks... we're talking serious, serious heart disease as well as liver failure. Eeep.
Not sure that'd make you popular, but then, that's not what you're going for, right?

*You just can't save someone from themself !!!!*
So don't waste your breath. The "craze" has hit and it has taken off like wildfire. I just tell my Atkins friends that I'll go out to eat with them any day, and I'LL eat what they don't.

And, now we even have to look at the sign at our local Hardee's advertising their new Low Carb Hamburger---it's basically just a big hunk of meat without a bun! And, another local restaurant advertising there version of no carb---a big bowl of meat! And, most restaurant menus have a Low Carb section! I'd love to see a restaurant sign say, Now Offering....Complete IBS Safe Menu!!! Or, a menu with, "These items are IBS Safe"!!!!
