All my doctors say to eat more fiber, including insoluble fiber. Heather says thats a no-no. Can someone explain the discrepancy?

Hi - I'd ask your docs to clarify. For just overall gut health I'd expect them to recommend both types of fiber. For IBS specifically, they should be well aware of the risks of insoluble fiber - the research on that is not new at all.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't eat any insoluble fiber with IBS - the goal is to eat as much as possible, but carefully, as it's a likely trigger.

Soluble fiber won't carry the IBS trigger risk that insoluble fiber does, so use it as your safe staple for foundation foods.
