Pain and Tummy Tamers Question

Hello,

I have been improving steadily. My constipation has resolved but some days I get a pain that almost feels like my intestines are "scratchy." I drink peppermint tea a couple times a day but would like to incorporate tummy tamers.

My issue with them is you need to take them on an empty stomach and I make a point to never have my stomach empty. The only time my stomach is empty is first thing in the morning. My only concern in taking them upon waking is that is when I also take my probiotic. Will the peppermint somehow disrupt the efficacy of the probiotic? I believe peppermint is an anti-bacterial of some sort and have always wondered if it would effect the probiotic. Thanks for any insight in advance.

Take care,

Andrew

Hi Andrew - you could take the pep cap last thing at night before bed. That works well to head off morning problems, and usually that's late enough that you'd have an empty stomach after dinner.

You can take the probiotic and pep cap together - they won't interact at all. But make sure you don't have to drink a lot of water for that - the enteric coating on the caps is stomach acid resistant but water soluble.

Peppermint - and a lot of other herbs and spices, actually - is inherently anti bacterial, anti fungal, anti lots of bad stuff. But it won't hurt probiotics or your natural good gut bacteria.

Interestingly, herbs and spices traditionally have been used not just for their digestive aid properties, but because they naturally help retard food spoilage. Especially critical in the days before refrigeration or modern processing/pasteurization, etc.
