Had this for 30-40 yrs. just now was told it is probably IBS. I can go a week or 2 fine, then BAM, down for 2-4 days. Need to know how to identify your trigger foods. Do you get the symptoms right after eating, the next day or?
Also need help in how I can eat veggies, broccoli , cabbage etc or can I? I do have the IBS diet book with recipes . Any input appreciated to get me on the right track. Does the IBS book First year have more info to help than the recipe one?

Hello, and welcome!

You can get hit with IBS symptoms from trigger foods while you're still eating them, later that day, that night, or the next day. It can vary a lot.

Check here http://www.helpforibs.com/diet/trigger1.asp for trigger foods, and follow the links through to things like insoluble fiber http://www.helpforibs.com/diet/fiber2.asp and soluble fiber http://www.helpforibs.com/diet/fiber1.asp

The First Year book has comprehensive information and help for IBS, including a detailed diet chapter, but the rest of the book isn't diet/cooking focused.

Eating for IBS is a cookbook, so very diet focused and then it has 175 recipes.

If you cook, Eating for IBS is the best fit, but if you don't much cook or don't want to, the First Year would be the best bet for dietary info without all the recipes.
