Hi there,

I haven't been here for a few months. I am doing well at the moment with only sometimes an attack after cheating with the safe foods or having an examination and a lot of stress.

I am wundering which foods are giving you the attacks that are coming 'while you are still having your diner'? The really suddenly 'it's not possible that it has gone through my body allready attacks' ?

Are there some foods or drinks which trigger this or is this like in the book (the diagram) what IBS is all about? The bowel moving faster by people with ibs? And then sometimes it's in a sixht gear or something...and didn't even had time to digest in any way yet..?

Thanks in advance for any answers.

Best regards,

Saskia

There are many foods that can do that most of which are high FODMAP foods such as apples, pears, honey, some melons, avocado, plum, etc. For an overview of the FODMAP diet and these foods read this article written by Kate Scarlata, a registered dietitian who has IBS.

Very high fat foods, or high insoluble fiber foods, will do this to me new

especially on an empty stomach. Green salads with high fat dressings at restaurants are the worst. Carbonated beverages on an empty stomach can also hit me fast. And anything deep fried on an empty stomach will get me while I'm still at the dinner table.

I don't know exactly what it was. I had some raw tomatoes (the little ones) and some grilled bell peppers. But also cauliflower cremesoup. While I am typing this I think it just all 3.. and the together.. oops..

Green bell pepper and cauliflower are high FODMAP foods so they could have been the problem. Good luck with the FODMAP diet when you start it

Thank you Syl. I had a red bell peper, is that also high in fodmaps? When I just eat plain coocked cauliflower I don't have any problems. For me that seems one of the safest foods. But well, maybe it feels safe for me but do I have prolems a day later?

Red bell peppers are okay - green bell peppers contains sorbitol and are high FODMAP. Cauliflower contains sorbitol too but it is a moderate FODMAP which can be tolerated in small amounts by some people and not by others. Trigger food effects can occur from a short time after eating to up to a couple of days later
