I have the Worst time with ibs d in the mornings. I also have three children 5 and under that require alot of my attention in the morining.
Just wondering how any of you cope with the morning as well as at work. Stress is a huge trigger as well for me.

I take my bentyl the minute I get up to have time to get any food fixed (before anyone or anything else). Right before eating any foods, I take my acacia fiber amount that I found individually works. I take any supplements at the end of eating. Also, i take bentyl before bedtime, and if needed if spasming in middle of night, rarely. Mornings are when colon wants to eliminate..eat smaller amount during meals, and especially slow enough..and snacks in between make that easier. I am IBS-d (diarriah). Bentyl side effects with dry mouth and eyes and makes me a little relaxed (it's an amine/"dicyclomine" like antihistamine)..so eyedrops and nasal spray. Also my toothpaste and mouth moisturizer contains Xylitol, (not too much though/since it can be a trigger) since drier mouth can cause bacteria build up. Bentyl works for diarriah type IBS. Too much soluble foods can cause me problems too with the gas build up, though acacia does not. Drink enough water to help, but not encourage diarriah...Now I drink 8C/day. You have to find a balance.

I have ibs-d for about 7yrs now and the only thing that has helped me with this is taking lomotil. I take 2 every morning and they last me all day. There is no way I could leave my house if I didn't have my lomotil. I always get up earlier than anyone so I can use the restroom and take my medicine and let it kick in and then all is good in the morning.

Boy, I REALLY feel for you!! This is a hell of a way to live!!

I use this medication too and it is very effective, but I also wonder about the long-term effects of using this medicine on a daily basis!!

Yes I have wondered the same thing. How often do you take the medication? I am looking into starting the FODMAP way of eating to see if that helps at all.

Always have a soluble fibre supplement before bed and first thing. keep it by your bed with some water. I find that really helpful.

If you have a big day on or an early start, pop a gastro stop or immodium before bed and maybe another first thing if still feel a bit funny.

ALways always always have soluble fibre WITH meals aswell. I've worked up to having quite a lot of Soluble fibre and it really helps it even helps me sometimes be able to eat a tiny bit of something rthat would usually upset me.

Thank you I will try this, I have some Metamucil already so Maybe I will start with some today. I met with my doctor and not much was mentioned to help. I was hoping she would prescribe some meds that was mentioned in other posts. I have not gone back to the specialist which is not easy to get an appointment.
In the meantime I have been still suffering and this morning was horrible and it settled down, I had my bun and some homemade soup and within minutes I was stuck in the bathroom at work for awhile...awful situation.
It makes me not want to eat anything during the day yet I know that is not the answer. I am starting to feel like I cant leave my house anymore, but with kids you just cant do that and nor do I want to be a shut in but I am so frustrated about this.
Thank you for reading my rant and again for your suggestions. See howit goes tomorrow!

it often has IBS triggers added - artificial sweeteners, colors, flavors, citric acid, etc. Psyllium is actually about 2/3 soluble fiber and 1/3 insoluble. It seems to cause a lot of gas and bloating for most IBS folks. It would not be my first choice of a fiber supplement for IBS at all.

Best,
Heather

You know, funny you mentioned the FODMAPS diet, I just viewed fodmap lists on google images the other day and then googled it "with" IBS and found also the latest ibs food lists. Bottom line: SO much variation, but then so are we ibs'rs variable in what helps. I still wish my GI would have referred me to a dietician..more pain reduction might have been achieved sooner...THANKS FOR YOUR BOOK HEATHER and Hastings book store-glad I found it somehow without the internet, not so available back then where I lived.
