Hello All,

As I promised you recently, I am giving you the results of my gastro doc visit today.

I brought with me a list of questions, and an Excel spreadsheet showing all of my food and beverage intake along with my symptoms, and bowel and urinary frequency.

The next step is for me to have an upper endoscopy/colonoscopy next week. I am taking the new prep for this, Movi Prep. It is supposed to be better than the older ones used.

The doc is trying to rule out Crohn's disease, colitis and other conditions to ensure I just have IBS. They are worried since I have lost 10 pounds in the last 6 weeks or so and I have a change in bowel habits.

I read the instructions for the bowel prep and I am NOT looking forward to this at all, but I feel I MUST take these tests in order to get some answers to my symptoms and some help at last!

I will update all of you on the results of these scopes.

Thanks for listening and caring!

Originally diagnosed with IBS-C in Spring, 2008. During spring to fall of 2008, had at least 10 acupuncture treatments and Chinese herbs. IBS went into remission. IBS returned in late July 2013 after taking 2 oral contrasts for a CT scan for cancer follow up. Had more acupuncture with different practitioner in summer 2014, but received little benefit.

Interesting they should call movi prep new. It has been on the market since at least 2007. Hopefully you get some answers but don't be discouraged if everything comes back negative especially if you have had these done in the past and everything was okay.

Thanks a LOT, Heather!

One thing concerns me: are these preps OK for us with IBS to use??

Hi - well, they're not great, but there isn't really any other option. I'd use peppermint or fennel tea as your clear liquids to help keep your gut calm, and after the procedure stick to your soluble fiber safe foods for the first day or two to get your gut back up and running calmly.

Best,
H

Can or should I take your Acacia fiber in the days before, during and after my test?

Also, can I use sugar in my peppermint tea?

With your help, these tests aren't so scary anymore!!

Ask your doc if you can take a pure soluble fiber supplement during prep. My guess is no, but might as well find out for sure.

I think sugar is okay, but again ask them.

Best,
H

They gave me a toll free 800 number for the prep that operates 24/7. I will also ask my doc these questions!

Thanks Much!
