Why does lack of sleep trigger IBS?

I'm averaging about 4 hours a night. Not good for my IBS-D. I'm listening to the hypnosis tapes before bedtime, doing relaxation, good sleep hygiene, pills, you name it. I think it might be hormonal.

affects serotonin levels in your gut, which affects IBS.

Without sleep at all people literally die. You need it more than food. So not getting enough sleep will have all kinds of physical repercussions, including making IBS flare.
