For those of you out there familiar with soluble fiber supplements, which in your opinion is the best and easiest tolerated. Take acacia out of the mix, and also Benefiber (can't find it on the shelves). Thanks for your help.

I would try psyllium first. I think it's the most effective. If your mom experience bloating...citrucel is recommeded by 2 of the gi's I saw. Good luck.
My mom's friend has IBS-D and she has had great success with Konsyl (psyllium supplement found in the grocery store or drugstore).

If you are looking for a supplement that is known to have minimal if any bloating due to gas try any product that contains polycarbophil such as Fibercon.
Since you say you can handle a considerable amount of insoluble fiber then you could give psyllium a try since is is 1/3 insoluble fiber and 2/3 soluble fiber.

Thanks guys! Mom has been on the Benefiber with good results, but we haven't been able to find that anywhere in our area lately. We don't want to put her through too much trial and error. Thanks again!

Psyllium, FOS, and inulin would be my last choices - too many IBS folks have problems with gas and bloating from those ones. I'd try anything else first.

If you have CVS in your neck of the woods, I've found their generic version of Benefiber works just as well, if you can find that instead of the name brand.

Thanks Snorkie! We do have a CVS, but I didn't look there. I got frustrated after trying Walmart, Target, Walgreens, Rite Aid, and there was another one I am forgetting, but you get the picture. I will try CVS.
