I am having a hard time giving up my 4-5 latte's a week. I have given up everything else that I was "hooked" to except my decaf soy latte. Now that I have eliminated all the other problem foods, I know that this does cause me a lot of B&G. For those of you that have quit coffee, how long did it take for your stomach to settle down? I just know if I could make it a week that I might notice a big difference. But I have not been able to make it more than 5 days without my latte. I guess I resist giving up this one last thing. I gave up tea a long time ago because before finding this web site I felt it made my symptoms worse. I have tried the peppermint and fennel teas and liked them. I still do have this feeling that the teas upset my stomach. I guess I will slowly add those over time. Does anyone find pineapple juice to be soothing? I know that juices are not suppose to be a good thing to drink but I get sick of drinking water all the time! I drink it at night and find that it helps digestion and alleviate my C.

Marinana, have you ever heard of Rocamojo? It's a roasted soy drink that you brew in your coffeepot, and it tastes a lot like coffee! They don't sell it anywhere near me, so I had to buy some at www.rocamojo.com . The best thing is, it doesn't upset the gut like coffee does!! So you can make your own Rocamojo lattes at home. I know it's not like stopping at the coffee shop, but hey, we have to do what we can to stay healthy, right?

Everyone else out there has heard this story a thousand times, but I'll repeat it again for you, Marinana.

I sympathize with you. I drank coffee for over 40 years -- actually 42 to be exact -- until last December 11, when Heather -- with her ONE post -- got me off it forever. You can do a search for "oh wow this is a huge problem" -- that's the post. (However, in it she alludes to the fact that I was drinking only decaf -- I hid from her the fact that I was also drinking the leaded stuff as well -- see how I am?)

Since I did it -- cold turkey -- I have felt SOOOOO much better! Okay, I had a few withdrawals, but Heather's suggestion of green tea as a temporary alternative was right on. You asked how long it took for my tummy to settle down? Immediately! The very first day I no longer had cramps all day! AND -- for someone my age this is very important -- my blood pressure dropped a LOT.

Since then, I tried Celestial Seasonings Tummy Mint tea. I tried others with fennel, but the Tummy Mint was best. However, I had terrible gas and bloating, so I finally broke down and ordered Heather's tummy teas. WOW! What an improvement! They're absolutely DELICIOUS. And I'm no longer blowing. (My husband thanks you, Heather!)

Pineapple juice burns going down and burns while it's still down. Grape juice works better for me. However, I don't think juices are workable for most people.

Try lemon in your water -- and some ice cubes -- and put it in a pretty glass. Water is IMPERATIVE; it's just SOOOO important. I have a hard time drinking it -- I'm NEVER thirsty -- but I do it anyway, and I measure how many glasses a day -- at least eight.

Trust me, Marinana, you'll be MUCH happier without that coffee -- and you'll thank Heather for it, believe me. Have fun with those teas -- do what my hubby and I love to do -- TASTE TESTS!

I have found that I can tolerate small amounts of juice as long as it's not on an empty stomach. If the pineapple juice works for you without causing any problems I don't see why you should stop. However the latte's have got to go for sure and I bet you will feel better very quickly. They need to make the coffee patch like the nicotene patch! I am addicted to peppermint tea now and have also gotten the variety pack of herbal teas so I can try different flavors.
