I am suffering through an IBS flare up that has already lasted a week, starting when I tried ONE dose of a brown rice protein powder. I know that we are supposed to eat white rice or potatoes during a flare up, BUT, won't they just turn to sugar in my gut (causing more gas)??? Same with sweet potatoes - natural sugars, resulting in more gas. My gluten free rice cereal is sweetened with natural sugar cane juice, and if I put any fruit on top it will cause even MORE gas. Most veggies are tough for me to digest at the best of times, even when they are cooked and pureed (which is what I do with all fruit too). I have hypoglycemia too, so I need some protein to keep my blood sugar stable, but what???? I can't just eat plain chicken or tuna - YUCK. Any help or advice would be MOST gratefully received. Thanks. karen

The plain soluble fiber foods won't give you gas, they'll just stabilize your gut.
You can add in plain skinless white poultry meat or seafood. Boring, yes, but it's just for a few days to get yourself stabilized.

Oh, I see. Thanks Heather!!! I guess I can stand it for a few days then. I have some very lean, gluten-free black forest ham. Would it be okay to have that with my white rice? I really appreciate your personal attention to my problems Heather. Bless you

you really want to avoid all red meats, and pork is one of them. That's true not just breaking the cycle but pretty much ongoing in terms of dietary management of IBS.
Stick to skinless white poultry, seafood, egg whites, well cooked and pureed beans/lentils (increase those gradually if you're not used to them), and soy.
Check trigger foods to totally avoid here http://www.helpforibs.com/diet/trigger2.asp
