I have checked the site to see if anybody else has already asked this but haven't seen anything. I have looked at many herbal teas, and while lots of them sound wonderful, several contain licorice root or chicory. I am wondering if anyone has tried these, and if they've had good luck? Is there enough of the licorice root in herbal tea to create problems for IBS-D folks or are they safe? Thanks for the help!

If I am feeling sick to begin with usually herbal teas with licorice make me feel worse. But if I am feeling fine, they dont bother me at all. I try to stick with the one herb teas now though, ginger and peppermint usually help.

Licorice is generally soothing to digestive tissues; in fact, I take it on a daily basis. I'm not crazy about the taste, though, so depending on your tastes, the tea may not be as soothing. Everyone is different, so you may want to try it when you don't feel as bad to see how it affects you. I can't do peppermint, so I drink a lot of ginger or chamomile teas, which are also soothing.

I have drunk licorice tea and not noticed any real effect be it negative or positive.

Yep - chicory is high in inulin, which can cause bloating and gas and even diarrhea. -nt- new
