I was wondering the same thing Double J. It seems to have gotten much worse with the porn/drugs. I know some sites like Facebook and others, make you type some letters before you can send a message.
Does anyone know if Heather could enforce something like that? I am not that internet-savvy.
It's a darn shame that this has to happen constantly to a place that offers so much to others.

This is a particularly nasty group of spammers. They have managed to shutdown or completely pollute other message boards even those that require you to type in letters in a picture before the registration is complete. Although the use of this technology will stop those spammers that are using automated spam posting methods a couple of which appear to be posting here.
It will likely take some aggressive moderating so that messages are deleted as soon as they appear in order to discourage spammers. Also they may have to get the web hosting company or the message board administrator involved to block offending IP addresses so they can no longer reach the message board at all.
One thing that could be done now is to disable the use of HTML code that allows pictures to be posted in the body of messages. This step alone appears to have discouraged them from posting porn on some other message boards.

it is still a big problem. People have to register, type in letters to verify registration, confirm registration with email, etc. But lately there are still problems.
We're trying to delete things as fast as we find them, and the spammers are banned immediately, but things are still slipping through.
I'm working on some more protection. I'm so sorry for all the problems.

I am still surprised at times at the level of iniquity that we have reached ...

from the spam ads they post (e.g. " Pay Per Click " revenue). Each time someone clicks on a spam ad link they get a penny or more. In other instance such as pharmacy ads they may be running a fraudulent web site that does not actually sell anything. They may be just collecting credit card information - not sure if they actually charge the cards. Some times they are just trying to increase traffic to web sites to get more potential buying clients.

Some hackers simply get pleasure out of wreaking havoc with other people's computers. There is no rhyme nor reason to this other than they have too much time on their hands and are looking for some source of power in their own lives! This is a fact in today's somewhat mentally sick world. This makes moving ahead and supporting one another in healthy ways a challenge.
