I often can't go to the bathroom without using my finger to dig up there..sorry for the details..I will go a good amound but then a large portion is still stuck or theres a small stool or 2..theres no other way for me except use my finger or have a pain in my side...Sometimes there's just one big stool and I use my finger and push..I was told I will lose control of my sphinter muscles then will have to wear an adult diaper and stool will just come loose all the time..is this really true? who else has this problem..HELPPP

I have no idea if this is true or not - I have read other people here on the board doing that , but I don't think all the time. Just wanted to send <<Hugs>> and to say, with all respect to your mom, I don't think she has any idea what she's talking about, and I'd recommend getting advice from others before worrying too much about anything she says, at least regarding IBS.

What things are you doing to get your IBS better? When you say you go a good amount but then feel like there is more, have you tried getting up and going for a walk around the house to see if it "moves things around" in there? That's what helps me if I still feel like I need to go but "it's" not ready to come out yet.

HTH, and I hope that you feel better soon! Remember, don't stress too much 'cause that won't help your IBS at all. Be calm and know that things will get better!

You seem to have an obsession about emptying your bowels completely. Why don't you let nature take its course and leave the bowel movements up to your body? It is NOT necessary for everyone to completely void themselves every day.

Poop when you have to, and don't force any more after that. If you don't have diarrhea then it's not like it will come falling out of you when you're walking down the street.

Try it for a week. Good luck!

I let nature take its course just fine..I get an urge to go,then I go.But if I don't get the stuff that got stuck after I go,I will get pain and just have feces stuck in my side. I really don't want to be cramped over at work..I feel alot better when I do that. Sometimes I don't even know I have to go to the bathroom except the feeling of bloating or uncomfortable then I put my finger up there and theres a bunch of stool trying to get out.

It's not diarreah or hard stool..and if I used a supository then stuff would get stuck in me like get too mushy..I go alot everyday..I could go a big one and still have alot stuck in me..Why are people telling me I will lose control of my sphincter muscles?

I know what you mean. I also feel like I need to go more and the thought occurred to me to use my finger but I just didnt want to..and walking around doesnt help for me I have to wait until my body does it and that might be 2 to 5 days later..I had been suffering with constipation for years but the last 3 years the symptoms are just worse..When I cant completely go I feel so bloated and awful..lately I have been having bouts of D too after being constipated then Ill have a normal movement..the next day its back to bloat ..cramps gurgling and pinging around in my gut like the gas cant get out ..I have had to stretch my opening to release the gas...it almost as if some parts of my intestines are paralyzed or blocked...hmmmmm

That sounds really scary..I don't have to stretch myself to let gas out though.Last night I felt as if stools would be comming out last night..well it was almost 12 and it never did so I went to bed as I am a light sleeper and everyone here wakes up early..I slept about 2 hours then couldn't sleep till about 5 hours later the discomfort, gas and bloating was so bad..I know its cuz stool wants out.

I understand how you feel cuz I am IBS-C also. The more stressed we are about emptying our bowels the worse it is, so now what I do is not worry so much about it and when I need to I take milk of magnesia once a week or whenver I have problems. Also its really important to drink ALOT of water for us. Unfortunately I dont and I really shoud try to drink more. Also do you take Heathers fiber? I do well with it. Good Luck and dont forget we are here for each other.

I know how you feel,I have found taking supplements of fish oil (omega 3,6 & 9) makes my colon slippery, if I'm really C I take 2 pills 2 to 3 X a day and stay on this till I have a smooth BM. Get the burpless ones, (from a good health food store) I also take 2 to 4 Twin Lab Magnesium Caps 400mg at bedtime to help have a BM the following morning. Since every IBS patients are different try smaller amounts of the mag caps first, for several days to see which works best for you. Good luck, and try talking to your Mom when your symptom free and explain how painful this is. Or better yet sit her down in front of this web page so she can read how difficult IBS can be for us.

ok..I really don't know how I can be constipated when I go to the bathroom alot everyday..but when I go to bed after work..the next morning a little stool from the day before is always stuck in me. I don't understand why I have so much stool everyday! I don't worry..I relax at my computer desk and and drink teas and such all day before work. What worried me was my mom saying eventually I will lose control of my sphincter muscles and have to wear an adult diaper cuz stool will just fall out. Even though I can go a big stool almost always several tims a day I have to use my finger or some of it isn't coming out. If I don't use my finger..it just stays stuck and I get a pain in my side..So I can't be having problems at work! I got to use my finger.

but as I said, this is really not something to be asking me as I simply don't have any basis for answering you. A good GI doc would be able to give you a qualified answer.

Best,

thank you for responding!Well I'll try to find a really good gi doctor that I can email..Did you read this post of mine in this thread?

"ok..I really don't know how I can be constipated when I go to the bathroom alot everyday..but when I go to bed after work..the next morning a little stool from the day before is always stuck in me. Heather would you happen to know of anyone with ibs,who must use the bathroom alot everyday or they feel horrible? It's not constipation like hard..its mostly a little small to medium large round ones, mostly long good thickness stools..and alot of things getting stuck too..Sometimes even 1 to a couple minutes of leaving the bathroom I'm in there again..I feel I'm finishing the rest of the previous stool.

Incomplete evacuation is one of the diagnostic criteria for IBS, so this is not necessarily an abnormal symptom. You may want to up your intake of IF to see if you can push some of this waste out quicker.

It is possible that you are D not C. Many bowel movements a day irrespective of consistency is usually called pseudodiarrhea or hyperdefecation, not constipation. Pseudodiarrhea is often associated with increased frequency of small, solid stool, rectal urgency and accompanies IBS. It would be wise to talk to your doctor to figure out if you are IBS-D or IBS-C. If you are D and not C then you may want to decrease your insoluble fiber and increase your soluble fiber.

is hyperdefication ibs common? I get some small stool, usually in the morning..and good sized ones throughout the day. I tend to eat more SF..I've eat too much If before and my stools were really mushy and small. As for doctors in this town..none of them helped me except to diagnose me with ibs..I have no money to waste on paying to a doctor visit about ibs..It really sounds like hyperdefication..

I have similar issues and squirt a small amount of warm water up there using a plastic syringe - try this instead of using your fingers
