Can ANY of you out there eat salad? I'm really curious -- because my GI specialist, when he initially diagnosed my IBS years ago, and I was in total denial and said I couldn't have IBS because I eat salad, told me there are a lot of people with IBS who tolerate salad well -- and that I am apparently one of them!

Is this really true? Can any of you guys eat salad? I think, way back then in the doctor's office, I THOUGHT I could eat salad -- I was too stupid to realize the salad could have been one of the causes of my attacks -- DUH -- and now I can't go near the stuff.

Everyone who can eat salad with no GI irritation raise your hands.

Bev

I don't have problems with it when I eat it with other safe stuff. On it's own - forget it!

Had a bad attack from it once and have been too scared to try it again.

I eat fresh salad almost everyday, but only after a safe meal. Eating alone isn't an option. Heather wrote in her book about eating it like the French do - after your main meal.

I'm like you - I had one of my very worst attacks after eating a spinach salad -- and I haven't wanted to even go near one again,

I can't really figure out what salad does to my stomach. I think I can handle it better than some other veggies such as broccoli or spinach.
I eat salad once in a while and always with my meal. Sometimes the dressing can make me burp about a million times which is just so fun!

after a nice soluble fiber meal, a small green salad (fat free dressing) is fine. On an empty stomach, just shoot me please.

I'm the same as Mags and Heather; only after my meal. I sometimes have trouble with Caesar Salad, must be the dressing. Sue

I have two categories of foods... ones that I can never eat, and ones that I can eat just fine when I'm feeling well (I have issues with GERD too). Salad is one I can eat just fine. I do always eat it with my main meal and low fat/fat free dressing.

I am with Heather and mags, if I eat it on an empty stomach its a problem, if I eat it after my meal its usally not a problem.

Its actually better to eat it afterwards anyway for digestion and fiber.

Hi Bevrs; I seem to be able to eat salads alright. Although, since it is supposed to be a trigger I don't eat them as much as I used to. I love Wendy's salad but with all that is in it, Iam sure it would be a real trigger.

I haven't read every reply here yet, but also something, is the type of salad. Iceberg can be a bigger trigger then some other forms of greens.

Same here, but I didn't know it until I read "THE BOOK", (Frist Year). Only then did I try a little after a meal of lots of soluble fiber, and even then I chew, and chew and chew to make sure the digestive tract doesn't have to work to hard.

I'm also afraid to eat salad because of all the problems it has caused me in the past! I haven't had one in who knows how long, and I miss it sooo much. But if so many of you can tolerate it after a soluble fiber meal maybe I'll try it soon...

I'm just a big scardy cat. I mainly eat my veggies cooked or juiced. Maybe I'll try something raw after a yummy soluble fiber meal sometime......glad to know so many of you can tolerate it! Thanks for this post everyone!!!!!!

I noticed that my pic is gone! I think it has something to do with villagephotos, the website I have it on. Hopefully they'll fix things soon! I don't like being invisible!

I don't have a problem with salad. Then again I don't normally eat it plain, I always eat it with meals. Maybe does it matter what you put in the salad? Cause mine always consist of romaine lettuce, cucumbers, and tomatoes. And I always use low fat/fat free dressings, or I use a little bit of oil and viniger.

Lettuce salad, after soluble fiber (for example, after a couple of rolls--no butter--before a restaurant meal), is usually okay. I have to remember to ask for no cheese/bacon, though. Spinach salad, eegh. Summer before last I had two crippling attacks from spinach salad (this is right before I read Heather's cookbook). I don't think I've eaten raw spinach since....
