I am having a hard time thinking my diet is healthy when I feel like I can't eat fruit and veggies. Before I was diagnosed I lost 45 pounds on following a high fruit and vegtable, low fat dairy and lean meat diet. Including excercise. Now I am not sure what to eat because most of what was "healthy" to eat makes me sick. Does anyone else have this problem? I guess I have to change my mind set. Is there any easier way to do it? Because I follow the IBS diet then fall back to the former "healthy" eating.
Thanks-Randi

Hi there - If you follow the guidelines at web page you should be able to eat quite a lot of fresh fruits and veggies. If you're really touchy, I find that blending them up is the safest way to go. So smoothies for the fruits, or blending them into fruit breads (zucchini, banana, pumpkin). And pureed pasta sauces, dips for bread, or soups for the veggies. If you cook, peel, seed, finely dice, and/or puree the fruits and veggies they tend to be really tolerable - especially if you eat them with a soluble fiber base like oatmeal, rice, pasta, potatoes, etc.
Hope you're feeling better soon.

I felt the same way at first since before changing to the IBS diet, all my foods were built around loads of fruits and veggies. Looking back now, I realize that they were only making me feel worse and I never stayed full very long either.
Since changing my eating habits, I have noticed how much better I feel with the exception of more sodium (Yuck!) and have cut that back again. Once you start to feel more control again, then you can slowly reintroduce the things you used to love and have. Hang in there!! We are all going through this together!

The key for me is not to eat fruits and veggies on an empty stomach. We eat a lot of salads at my house and I'm the only one who eats after my main meal. Cook your califlower and mash it up like you do with potatoes. My boys perfer mash califlower over potatoes. Good luck and hang in there!!
