Hey everyone! I was wondering if anyone on here has taken nutritional yeast. It seems like a good source of vitamins and protein. I don't eat meat often and I don't like to over-do soy products, so I was interested in it. Does anyone know if it known to affect IBS? Thanks

I use it all the time and love it--typically I sprinkle it on pasta, rice, potatoes, vegetables, anything where I want to add a cheesy flavor. I have no problems eating it whatsoever.

Be careful not to confuse it with "brewer's yeast"--they are not the same thing.

I use Nutritional Yeast, too, often. It really enhances the flavour of alot of foods. I purchase it at an organic health foods store. It doesn't aggravate any IBS issues. It's great for creating creamy cheesy sorts of sauces, etc. I love using it in scrambled tofu dishes, too.

I have used it for years and found Red Star Nutritional Yeast to be the tastiest. It is great over rice or pasta! I use it as a Vitamin B12 source since I do not eat meat. Debbie IBS-A

I have recently purchased nutritional yeast at the HFS, but now I'm not sure what to do with it. Can some of you who have used it give me some more specific recipes/ideas?

Thanks!

I add it to mash potato for a cheesy flavour or to a basic white sauce for pasta or fishermans pie, you can add it to stocks, stews or soups for extra flavour or sprinkle it on top of dishes like you would cheese as it melts in. Hope that helps

Joanne Stepaniak's book "The Uncheese Cookbook" has some good recipes for cheezy-flavored items using nutritional yeast. I admit I don't care much for her hard cheeze substitutes, but some of the soft cheeze recipes make good dips or spreads for bread.

Picked some up about a month ago. Tastes ok but really havn't gotten use to the flavor. most of the recipies I have seen use tofu to create a cheese sauce.

How long can you keep this in the fridge? I have a tendency to forget about things. Had a run in with a tub of soy cream cheese not once but twice. Toss out alot of things the day they expire now.
