Hey folks. Has anyone had success taking licorice root as a supplement? I have ibs-c with reflux and heard it could be helpful. I just started today and I do notice a difference. I'm wondering if anyone else has tried this.

Hi - real licorice is a natural laxative. It will help constipation, but be careful here as with all laxatives (even herbal ones) regular use can lead to bowel dependency.

I'm finding that it is helping me with reflux. My gut is also not pouding as hard. I use modulon, which helps me a lot, but was looking for something a bit more to calm the gut, help with gas and reflux. I find that if my reflux is under control, my ibs is much better.... If I continue to find that licorice helps, how often do you think it would be safe to use it? i can't use peppermint because of reflux, and i'm allergic to chamomile...

Hi - I honestly don't know how often it's okay to use the licorice. But I would suggest fennel instead of the peppermint for both the reflux, gas, bloating, and spasms. It can help a lot and certainly won't hurt. There's info about fennel here web page
